Simply put, a home cinema is the room in your house where the main movie-viewing happens, this might be your lounge or a dedicated room.
In the case of a dedicated room, you would have more scope for sound insulation of the room, seating directly in front of the display and high-fidelity audio with speakers perfectly positioned.
In the case of a home cinema in your lounge, there will be more restrictions on the screen size, sound levels and positioning of all the equipment and seating, but you can get really close to a cinema experience.
The cost of a home cinema will come down to what you are looking to achieve, simply either the best possible cinema experience in your common lounge, or a purpose-built home cinema room.
For a basic home cinema set-up you can look to spend between £3000 to £5000, and for high-end it can easily be £15k plus if you demand the latest in projection technology and sound.
For a cinema room you can expect to pay from around £25k and there is no upper limit! Laser projectors, rack-mount hardware and ultra-powerful audio that you can feel as well as hear in crystal-clear clarity is going to set you back large sums… but its worth it, the experience is often better than a public cinema!
